Designing for One; We created a custom made AI + Assistive Technology product to ease the challenge of living with a disability for Michelle*.

Problem
After a long day, Michelle’s wrist would be in pain due to carpal tunnel. She often chose not to wear her wrist brace because they restrict her mobility.
Design Process
Our design was inspired by the braces that Michelle already had and said that she liked. We included features that would be most beneficial to ease the pain of carpal tunnel.
Symptoms
Thumb and Finger Numbness, Shock-like Sensations, Shoulder Pain, Weakness and Clumsiness, Dropping Things
Solution
We designed a customized brace that will relieve pain and still give her the mobility that she needs while carrying out various tasks, such as cooking.
It will prolong her ability to do what she loves longer without needing breaks for pain relief and add value to her daily life.
The brace pairs with an application that is easily accessible through her phone.

By eliminating the metal spoon Embrace provides Michelle with an easy grip and increased mobility in comparison to other standard braces on the market.
With motion sensory equipment the smart brace can detect overuse of the wrist and suggest a relief cycle.
This waterproof brace is easy to wash and charge.
With bluetooth connectivity this brace helps Michelle forget about her pain.

Now, Michelle won’t have to stop her culinary process to heat or ice her hand when her wrist starts to hurt. She even has the option to have a small vibration massage for her ailment.
With the help of the Embrace app, she can now customize her “hands free” therapy session and schedule cycles whenever and however she wants.
