FedEx Local
Service Design > Group Project > 5 weeks
FedEx is a prominent American multi national delivery services company.
For the first half of the project we chose to study the current state of FedEx as a company and visualize it in the form of a poster. Then we identified an area of opportunity for FedEx to grow and developed a ‘Future State’ visualization that would simulate FedEx once the added service had been integrated.
Analyzing the ‘Current State’ of FedEx
During the course of our research we identified Amazon to be one of FedEx’s largest competitors. We recognized potential opportunities and identified the need to promote local businesses to be the most opportunistic.
By reallocating existing resources we could help promote local business.
Video Pitch
We spoke to the Project Manager of ‘The Same Day Delivery’ and pitched our concept to him. With his feedback we made certain modifications and confirmed that we would be able to use the following pre existing resources.
Who will be making the deliveries?
FedEx employees will be making the deliveries since “ People trust the uniform”
Carpooling for Packages
Step 1: Customers place their order at local stores using mobile app
Step 2: Store Vendors place the package in designated FedEx Lockers
Step 3: Using existing models, FedEx employees pick up and deliver on the way to their final destination thereby, increasing package density per trip
Promoting Local Businesses
Every Local company cannot afford to have it’s own shipping and delivery infrastructure
This service enables local businesses to use a trusted delivery service
Same Day City App shows customer the affiliated companies, stores and routes so they can place an order
Future State
We created an animated poster that brings our service to life! It is a visualization of how FedEx Local would be incorporated into the pre-existing company operations.
By reallocating resources FedEx Local adds value and optimizes the package density rate per trip made.
Empowering local businesses and meeting customer needs.
